How to Put Your Marketing on Autopilot And Get the Most Bang for Your Advertising Buck
by Dina Giolitto
If you're really serious about doing business on the web, then you have GOT to automate your marketing. This entails putting out little informational "gems" that attract new subscribers, then sending those subscribers a new nugget of wisdom every month (or every 2 weeks, if you prefer) as a way to remind them you're out there. Over time, this has the effect of helping people to see you as a source of knowledge to be trusted, and a reliable provider of high quality products and services.
When you first set out with your brand-spanking-new email newsletter, your mind will be fresh and you'll have plenty to chatter on about. Then, as your effort drives more and more business, burnout will begin to set in. You'll take a month off from publishing, and then another (I know, because I've experienced this firsthand). You'll grow tired of fumbling with pesky newsletter templates, and you'll get lazy, recycling the same old tired plug for your ebook, or whatever, that everyone is sick of reading.
One day, you'll decide it's time to step up production and put this baby on cruise control. You'll realize that if you ever want to maintain and even improve the level of interest in your products and services that exists today, you'll need to take extra steps to be sure the marketing rolls out well in advance.
This is where you'll realize that you need content - a minimum of 2 articles per month. And if you're blogging, and guest-posting on other people's business blogs as a means of attracting more sign-ups, then you'll need even more than 2 articles per month.
Imagine if, instead of racking your brains every month, you had a stockpile of content that sounded like you, reflected your values, branded your business, and managed to soft-sell your products and services?
This is indeed a feasible goal - and it's a project that you can tackle yourself if you're up for the punishment. And if you're not? Then you can get smart, and outsource the content writing to someone who is intimately familiar with your business and ideals (and if not, they can get up to speed really quickly).
To simplify things, let's say that you want 2 articles per month, in advance, for an entire year. You'll be able to post half to your blog, which you can easily configure to "go live" on certain dates in the future that you can predetermine in advance. The other 12 articles will be for your newsletter. You can set up each issue in Aweber.com or whichever permission-based list service you use, and then sit back as your marketing campaign rolls out on its own, over time.
Or, you can save the newsletter articles, and publish "spur of the moment" for each month, season and holiday as the mood strikes. You may find that this spontenaiety adds a certain robust quality to your marketing communication that wouldn't be there if, say, you had written up ALL the issues in a week's time during a period when business was slow for you. But, it's entirely up to you how to approach the job of creating newsletter content in advance.
Now, here's where planning ahead can save you dollars and sense (no pun intended). Most copywriters are happy to offer a bulk writing discount for article assignments of 10 or more. The dollar value per article typically goes down incrementally as the quantity of content goes up. So, if you contract 24 articles in a week's time, you'll pay less than if you refuse to commit to the article writing service, and instead purchased one article here and another there, over the long term.
Imagine how much you can save on a purchase of 100 articles (including hours and headaches!).
A word of caution: buying articles in bulk does not mean running out to the nearest SEO article garbage factory who will then churn out some tired old drivel that reads like a computer generated it automatically (and maybe one did!)
Better to entrust your business communication to a seasoned copywriting professional who can be trusted to represent you well and help you make more money while spending less time working!
