I really want you to make good use of our copywriting double-whammy ezine, as you don't come across info like this every day.

"Why Doesn't My Sales Letter Convert Like I Hoped it Would?"

And the second-runner-up FAQ...

Do I have to make my sales letter long and tacky like all those other internet marketers?

I hope that you read and absorb every drop of this coveted information. Put it to use before your competition does (click either one of the underlined links in the last paragraph).

More Copy Makeovers Are Coming Later This Month!

SPECIAL REPORT:

10 Reasons Why Your Sales Copy Doesn't Convert
(And What You WILL Do Better Next Time Around)

by Dina Giolitto

You wrote a great information product. It's brilliant! You spent hours... no, days... no, WEEKS pouring your soul into this masterpiece. You just know that your readers would eat this thing up (if they knew about it). And yet... purchases are so few and far between that you're about ready to crawl into the fetal and sleep 'til next season. You worked SO hard. What happened?

1. You wrote a dead line instead of a headline.

Did you ever notice that sales headlines written by top web marketers feel like an instant caffeine jolt? You could be sitting there in the Slack Jaw Zone for hours, when suddenly Yanik or someone equally impressive sweeps onto the scene... and in nine words or less has you wide-eyed and believing that the answer to your prayers lies at the bottom of his landing page.

Comments from Dina: Overall, this ad didn't need much work at all. The bullet points made for easy reading and took just a few minutes of condensing to save room. A new, dynamic headline gave this product the proper soundoff that it deserves, and the added author description lends credibility as a selling point.

Important Consideration: Next time, make it a snap for the customer to purchase. Put the product on its own sales page where the reader can click to learn more and then purchase instantly using a secure online payment system. Directing the customer back to the "main" site risks losing the sale to distractions.

Classified 3- Submitted by Russ Jackman of Internet Advisor

Before:

  • Improve your business productivity
  • Design and maintain your web site
  • Brainstorm and assist the creative process
  • Backup and protect your important data

The F*ree Business Essentials CD can be downloaded for f*ree, or a physical CD can be requested for $6.95 shipping and handling per CD. Get your F*ree Business Essentials CD today at www.InternetAdvisor.ca.

After: (Add a stronger headline and you're good to go!)

Get the ONE TOOL you need to become a Do-It-Yourself Web Biz Whiz. The Internet Advisor presents: your F*ree Business Essentials CD - all the f*ree tools and open source software you need to:

- Improve your business productivity
- Design and maintain your web site
- Brainstorm and assist the creative process
- Backup and protect your important data

Download the F*ree Business Essentials CD for f*ree, or request a physical CD for $6.95 shipping and handling. Visit http://InternetAdvisor.ca.

Comments from Dina: The bulletpoints that Russ wrote really grab the reader's attention, so there wasn't much room for improvement there. A benefit-geared, call-to-action headline should help this pop off the page a bit better.

Important Consideration: Having a direct link to the CD will make it easier for the customer to download without becoming lost on the site and losing interest. Most marketers offer f*ree downloads as an incentive to sign up for their ezines, and this one would do the job nicely.

Classified 4 - Submitted by Marsha Jordan of HugsandHope.org

Before:

HUGS, HOPE, and Peanut Butter: Finding light after life's storms. This inspirational book of humorous essays, illustrated by critically ill children, will encourage anyone facing the difficulties of life. Laugh out loud as author Marsha Jordan recounts, in Erma Bombeck style, her zany experiences and the lessons learned from them. Jordan, who has battled chronic fatigue, pain, and depression for most of her life, shares stories about everything from in-laws, car accidents, and a day in the emergency room, to wild bears, pet pigs, and very male husbands. Chapter titles include "Limburger Attitude" and "Life in the Manure Pile." www.hugsandhope.org/pb.htm

After: (Bringing it home to touch the reader)

What if it were YOUR child? Scary medical procedures. Long hospital stays. Missing out on carefree kid times. Children with critical illness need a little extra love from us all. Support Marsha Jordan in her effort to bring smiles to sick kids each day. Purchase this wonderful book of essays, beautifully illustrated by her own "Hugs and Hope Kids." In HUGS, HOPE, and Peanut Butter: Finding light after life's storms, Jordan shares hilarious accounts of everything from in-laws, car accidents and a day in the emergency room, to wild bears, pet pigs, and very male husbands. Send a child a smile - visit www.hugsandhope.org/pb.htm

Comments from Dina: Here, I tried to paint a picture with words that would help the reader feel the very real need of these misfortunate kids while understanding exactly why they should buy this book. I removed the mention of chronic fatigue, but it could easily be worked back in depending on where the ad is being published (for instance, a women's health website would work). Marsha's original ad contained fantastic visuals that really bring the book to life.
