Copywriting and Marketing Rates

Our general copywriting rate is $70 per hour. Here's an example of what/how much you get at that rate:

  • A 4-page website copywriting job with an average of 400-600 words on each page might run about $100 per page on average.

  • An article of about 800 words will run about $140 to write from scratch.

  • A blog post of about 300-500 words might run about $70. If you book us for 2 blog posts per week on a steady basis, we might knock $10 off the price for a total of $120 per week for 2 blog posts.

  • 2 hours of creative brainstorming on a tagline job will get you a full page of taglines, single spaced at 11 points, in a Word document, for a total of $140.

  • A newsletter job would take about 2 hours to write the article, 1 hour to compose the newsletter intro, column and current promotion, 1 hour to add images and links and about 1 hour of client communication. That's a total of 5 hours; at $70 per hour this is $350 but we might knock it down to $300 in order to retain the client.

  • A newsletter job where we are ONLY editing an article and writing the newsletter copy and promotions would take maybe 3 or 4 hours. We would knock that down to an even $200 flat for a client who wanted to repeat this service with us each month.

DISCOUNTS and Flat-Fees are applied in certain circumstances, such as...

  • Repeat clients who we have established a good, working relationship with

  • Clients who would like a monthly retainer; for example, on newsletter and article writing jobs

  • Bulk content creation jobs; for example, a high volume of articles or blog posts all at once

  • Clients who have a steady flow of copywriting and marketing work each month

Wordfeeder Copywriting understands the needs of small businesses - after all, we are one! Therefore, we want to offer you a fair price for the work we do on your behalf.

The best way to figure out how much you need to budget for copywriting work is to tell us what needs to be done and how we can help you accomplish it.

The beauty of working with a virtual professional is that we're highly scalable to your budget and needs.

For example, let's say you have an ebook that needs a look-over. Of course, any copywriter can go to town on this copy, analyzing it this way and that until the cows come home. But let's assume you just want a quick scan for typos, and you're not looking to pay for more than 10 hours of work.

I can do that for you! But you have to TELL me up front what your vision is. Really, it's just my goal to make clients happy while ensuring that our team of professionals gets compensated fairly for caring about, and putting an effort into, your projects.

Copywriting is tax deductible. So are web hosting, permission based email management, blog subscriptions, domain purchases, and anything else you do to market your business online. So in the end, you're not REALLY investing as much as you think you are!

We want you to haggle with us. No, I don't "live" for this; after all, I'm a writer and so if it's math-related, it's a little scary to me. But as a small business owner I've grown to realize that every new project is practice in the art of negotiation. Communication is critical if we want to meet halfway - so please tell me what you need, and then tell me again!

You ONLY pay for the hours I spent working for you. That means that even though I might quote your website copywriting job at $600.00, if the hourly rate only comes out to $280.00 in the end, then that's what you pay. I value honesty in a professional relationship above all. Copywriting job quotes are a lot like getting an estimate to have your car serviced. They're just a guess. For long-term assignments, I do a periodic "check in" so you know exactly how many hours are on the clock.

The more projects we do together, the less I charge. I generally do not offer "price breaks" to first-time customers. However, if you and I develop a good flow to our projects and feel productive together, then I'll offer you reduced rates for ongoing work.

The first project is a test run. You may feel hesitant the first time you work with a creative professional, and that's okay. The first project is typically a small one; for example, an article or press release, or maybe a tagline job that takes a couple of hours. I will walk you through the process of working with a copywriter and then we'll give it a go. I typically quote an 800-word article at $140.00 for first-time customers.

The more content you request up front, the lower your per-article fee. Some clients farm out bulk article writing to Wordfeeder. We assign teams of writers to deliver high quality, informative articles that you can publish in your blog, on your website, in your newsletter, or other places on the web. In this case, we're ready to negotiate a fee with you (note, though, that we don't offer "sweat shop rates" - our writers work hard to provide excellent, original articles for your company).
